EARLY OCTOBER PORTRAITURE
Most don’t realize they are encountering a unique new way of creating abstract expression when they chance across this portraiture of imaginary 20th century art influences that inspired and taught me how to SEE, recognized and portrayed as they come on sunny mornings to a milieu created for the occasions in an east window, to participate in my exploration of them in appreciation of my knowing they exist.
They manifest in a number of crinkled soft plastic water bottles, some colored by Ukrainian Easter-egg dyes, in proximity to a melange of crystals, fancy tequila bottles and various other textural, colorful, sundry items that vary with whim and whimsy. The full light of the sun is parabolically reflected back into the crystal mass, creating a sort of light machine that causes the bottles to glow and share colors, revealing a series of ephemeral personalities that mutate with the slightest angle...
My function is to recognize and photographically portray them in their finest light, which is what you see here in these original raw files shot at maximum size and resolution, shown as they exist on original memory cards that are unique to photography and contemporary art since they involve the ignored phenomenon of refraction and thus actually herald a new genre in the creation of abstract expression.
They are from an invented, sui generis technique, conceived, developed, honed and polished over the years that it has taken me to fully appreciate the opportunity they present…a unique appreciation of color and light through the magical, ignored phenomenon of refraction….
