YOU are looking at formal photographic portraiture of imaginary spirits of color and light as they appeared in crinkled plastic water bottles, some colored by Russian easter egg dyes, photographed during the first part of January 2021. Photographic compositions of REFRACTED color and light…..what I perceive to be their actual spirits as they have appeared to be recognized in styles that sometimes allude to certain 20th century artists, some that I have known personally and others admired for more than half a century.
The imperfections* and bottle information in these untouched raw images remind that the spirits are actually INSIDE of the crinkled bottles, leading me to imagine they very well could be ACTUAL spirits of color and light that have come to be appreciated.
They celebrate the possibilities of REFRACTION, a basically ignored phenomenon, in the creation of abstract expression.
