These traditional festivals observe rituals that date from the advent of agriculture for the same reasons now as then, to attempt to influence the forces of nature into providing an auspicious growing season by delivering a generous amount of soft rain to moisten their planted fields and produce a bountiful harvest for the benefit of the community, to make the coming year a little easier for all.
